Definition Of SSH

SSH (Secure Shell) is a simple command protocol and interface. This helps you to secure access to remote computers. Frankly, this is the perfect tool for most of the network administrators, developers, and programmers for accessing the Linux Servers, devices and desktops remotely.

Using the SSH, you can connect remote raspberry PI to another computer. Also, it helps you to execute the Linux based commands making you feel that you are really logged into the system itself.

Keep in mind that such kind of approach is very much handy if you are planning to code on the PI, right from the comfort of your laptop. Now by using this method, you need to first connect your mouse, keyboard or TV to the raspberry PI. So, all you have to do is just connect your raspberry PI to the network and you get to connect to all of it.

At times for connecting your raspberry PI with other system, you can even use the Debian related Linux distribution system. Now before going with the connection, let’s assume that you are well aware in using the Raspberry PI and even have the experience in booting the PI to the command line. Also, you have to make sure that your PI operating system has to be Raspbain and the PI should be connected to the network of yours. Also, it is important that you should connect your PI using the SSH to another Linux run computer.

If you are still lacking any knowledge regarding on how the SSH or raspberry PI works, you could check out various online websites like https://remoteiot.com to gain more understanding.

Once you are going to start the connection, the first thing you would need to do is ensure that you PI has started up. Then you need to get the IP address of your PI which will be used later on.

In the command line type in

Ifconfig

Now this command will display all the relevant network configurations of your PI. Here the IP will be shown as inet.addr. Just keep a note of this as it will be important later on.

Enabling SSH Using Remote Connect Raspberry PI

Here you have to keep in mind that if you are using the Raspbian Desktop, it would be easy for you to configure SSH and that too using the Raspberry PI Configuration utility. This will be easily seen right at the Raspberry PI logo present at the top left hand corner.

After that you have to select the enable on SSH.

Installing SSH On Raspberry PI Using Terminal

You might be surprised to know that the Raspbain has already a SSH prepackaged. But it is better to install it anyway. First you need to type in

sudo apt-get install ssh

Once the install is over, start the SSH service

Sudo/etc/init.d/ssh start

Another important thing to note down is that you can easily restart and stop this service. It can be done in the similar manner –

For Stopping

sudo/etc/init.d/ssh stop

For Restarting

sudo/etc/init.d/ssh restart

Wrapping Up

Keep in mind that you should only connect your raspberry PI with another system through SSH if you are experienced. You must have sufficient knowledge for doing this connection procedure or hire an expert network administrator for doing this.
