Line-up confirmed for next weekend’s Alt.Fiction Festival, Derby

"Derby City Council has confirmed the line-up for Alt.Fiction 2008, the third annual one-day festival of science fiction, fantasy and horror writing, which takes place on Saturday April 26th.

Detail: The lineup for Derby's sci-fi and fantasy fiction event, Alt.Fiction 2008, has been confirmed. Alt.Fiction 2008 takes place on April 26th at Derby Assembly Rooms, and features a day packed with readings, workshops and panels with some of the UK's leading talent in science-fiction, fantasy and horror writing and publishing talent.

This year's line-up features a host of top UK genre authors, including the likes of Brian Lumley, Michael Marshall Smith, Mike Carey, Charles Stross, Graham Joyce, Ramsey Campbell and Justina Robson and many, many more. Tickets for the day cost £20 (£16 concessions) and can be booked from the Assembly Rooms Box Office on 01332 255800. Doors open at 11am for a 12.00 p.m. start, with a 9.00 p.m. close. The programme of events for the day is available on the Alt.Fiction blog.

Detail: Orbit Books regrets to announce that the talk and signing by Mike Carey - author of the Felix Castor novels, including his latest novel, Dead Men's Boots [Amazon] that was due to take place at the Rutherford Theatre on Thursday October 25th has had to be cancelled by the organisers.

Genre writers at the Guildford Book Festival

Detail: Michael Marshall Smith (with his 'Michael Marshall' hat on) will be appearing at the Guildford Book Festival on Tuesday October 16th as part of a panel event entitled 'Adapting For Screen', which will be chaired by Paul Blezzard of Oneword Radio, along with fellow writers Jed Mercurio and Ben Richardson.

The whole festival runs from October 15th - 27th and other writers of genre interest appearing at various Festival events include: John Connolly, Juliet McKenna, Mike Carey and Paul Magrs.

Detail: Emily Man of London manga and comics chain Orbital has been in touch to let us know that: "Mike Carey and his daughter Louise Carey will be signing at Orbital Manga, 4c Orion House, Upper St. Martins Lane, London, on 29th September from 1.00 p.m.

Mike (Lucifer, Hellblazer and many more) and Louise (Diary of a London Schoolgirl, Bethany’s Words) will be promoting their new co-written comic book Confessions of a Blabbermouth [Amazon]. There's an interview with Mike Carey about the project over at www.comicbookresources.com.
