Detail: The lineup for Derby's sci-fi and fantasy fiction event, Alt.Fiction 2008, has been confirmed. Alt.Fiction 2008 takes place on April 26th at Derby Assembly Rooms, and features a day packed with readings, workshops and panels with some of the UK's leading talent in science-fiction, fantasy and horror writing and publishing talent.

This year's line-up features a host of top UK genre authors, including the likes of Brian Lumley, Michael Marshall Smith, Mike Carey, Charles Stross, Graham Joyce, Ramsey Campbell and Justina Robson and many, many more. Tickets for the day cost £20 (£16 concessions) and can be booked from the Assembly Rooms Box Office on 01332 255800. Doors open at 11am for a 12.00 p.m. start, with a 9.00 p.m. close. The programme of events for the day is available on the Alt.Fiction blog.

'Basil Copper: A Life in Books' by Stephen JonesHosted by the British Fantasy Society and PS Publishing, the bio/bibliography Basil Copper: A Life in Books, compiled and edited by Stephen Jones, will be launched on Saturday, February 23rd at The Upstairs Bar, Ye Olde Cock Tavern, 22 Fleet Street, London EC4Y 1AA from 6.00 p.m. onwards.

Among those signing copies will be: Basil Copper, editor/co-designer Stephen Jones, artists Randy Broecker and Les Edwards, co-designer Michael Marshall Smith and publisher Peter Crowther. Special Guests (subject to commitment) will include legendary anthology editors Hugh Lamb, Michel Parry and David A. Sutton.

‘Mammoth Book of Best New Horror #18′ Hallowe’en celebration, London

Detail: An event is being held to celebrate the publication of The Mammoth Book of Best New Horror #18 (Robinson, £7.99) on Wednesday October 31st (Hallowe'en!) at Waterstone's 82 Gower Street, London (nearest tube stations are Euston Square / Goodge Street) from 6.30 to 8.30 p.m.

Critically-acclaimed horror writers Christopher Fowler, Mark Samuels and Michael Marshall Smith who will be reading from their latest work, plus renowned and multi award-winning editor Stephen Jones will be hosting a Q&A discussion about modern horror fiction and discussing some favourite authors and their works.

Genre writers at the Guildford Book Festival

Detail: Michael Marshall Smith (with his 'Michael Marshall' hat on) will be appearing at the Guildford Book Festival on Tuesday October 16th as part of a panel event entitled 'Adapting For Screen', which will be chaired by Paul Blezzard of Oneword Radio, along with fellow writers Jed Mercurio and Ben Richardson.

The whole festival runs from October 15th - 27th and other writers of genre interest appearing at various Festival events include: John Connolly, Juliet McKenna, Mike Carey and Paul Magrs.

BFS announces programme for Fantasycon 2007

Detail: The events programme for this year's Fantasycon (Nottingham, September 21st-23rd) has just been announced over at the Fantasycon blog.

Highlights include an in-conversation session between Guests of Honour Michael Marshall Smith and Stephen Jones, plus fellow GoH Terry Brooks interviewed by Mark Yon of SFFWorld.com fame. There's also the usual mix of readings, launch events, late-night ghost stories, the famous Fantasycon Saturday Night raffle, and on the Sunday afternoon, the fantasycon banquet and the announcement of the British Fantasy Awards for 2007.

Michael Marshall Smith short story set for filming

A recent announcement on Michael Marshall Smith's website confirms that development has started on a feature film adaptation of his 1996 short story 'Hell Hath Enlarged Herself'. Michael is working as producer and co-screenwriter on the movie, which is a co-production between Cuba Productions and Lightworks Films, financed by the UK Film Council.
