Mark Morris confirms BBC deal for new Doctor Who novel

Detail: UK-based horror scribe Mark Morris has confirmed that the BBC have commissioned him to write a new Doctor Who novel; the fourth official Who novelisation he will have penned and the second in the New Series Adventures line.

Mark says: "The new novel will be entitled Ghosts of India, and will be published in September. I'm incredibly excited to be writing another Who book so soon after [his previous Doctor Who novel] Forever Autumn [Amazon]."

Triple Doctor Who author signing, FP London, January 12th

Detail: From the Forbidden Planet press release: "Forbidden Planet is delighted to announce a signing by Trevor Baxendale, Simon Guerrier and James Swallow. They will be signing their new Doctor Who books at the Forbidden Planet Megastore, 179 Shaftesbury Avenue, London, on Saturday 12th January, from 1.00 to 2.00 p.m."

The three Doctor Who books in question are: Wishing Well (Baxendale), The Pirate Loop (Guerrier) and Peacemaker (Swallow).

Paul Cornell Doctor Who short story to be printed in Telegraph, Dec 22nd

Detail: Science fiction author, comics writer and Doctor Who script- and novel-writer Paul Cornell tells us: "I'm pleased to say that my Doctor Who short story for Christmas, 'The Hopes and Fears of All the Years' will be appearing in the Daily Telegraph [on Saturday December 22nd], and then on the Telegraph's website, www.telegraph.co.uk. There are some lovely illustrations by Doctor Who Magazine comic artist Mike Collins. I hope you enjoy it."

Paul is also running a competition via the Facebook event page [registration more than likely required to view, definitely to enter] that he's set up to spread the word about the story, in which you can win original artwork and signed copies of the story.

Hallowe’en Horrors East Midlands tour, October 29th - 31st

Alex Davis, organiser of, among many other things, Derby's annual Alt.Fiction one-day conventions, has been in touch to tell us about a trilogy of events taking place at the end of october. "This Hallowe'en sees three special literature events taking place to mark the release earlier this year of a new horror anthology, Phobic, which was published by Comma Press and contains 15 superb horror stories."

The three events will present readings from a number of the authors whose work is published in the anthology. The tour begins on October 29th at 7:30 p.m. in Chesterfield at the Pomegranate Theatre, featuring acclaimed fantasy and thriller writer Chaz Brenchley and local crime writer Christine Poulson. Tickets are £4 / £3 (concessions) and tickets can be booked by calling 01246 345222.

The second event takes place on October 30th at Northampton Central Library, at 7.00 p.m. This event features Paul Magrs (author of Never the Bride and Something Borrowed) along with established scriptwriter Robert Shearman. Both authors are also well known for their work as writers for Dr Who - Robert Shearman was the writer of the well-known episode 'Dalek'. Tickets are available, priced £4, by calling 01604 462040.

The tour concludes on Hallowe'en night, October 31st, at Lincoln Library from 7.45 p.m. and features scriptwriters Maria Roberts and Lavinia Murray. Both authors have had worked produced at various theatres, and Lavinia Murray has written over 30 plays for BBC Radio. Tickets for the final date are £4 / £3 (concessions) and can be booked by calling 01522 782010.

Each event features author readings, Q+A sessions, book sales plus the Hallowe'en Horrors Raffle, with horror goodie bags to be won!

Doctor Who authors at Borders, Manchester Fort, September 20th

Detail: Apologies for the late notice (editorial oversight, as usual...) but three Doctor Who tie-in authors - Messrs. Paul Magrs, Mark Michalowski and Mark Morris - will be reading from and signing their new Doctor Who tie-in novelisations (Sick Building, Wetworld and Forever Autumn, respectively) at Borders, Manchester Fort, this evening (September 20th) at 7 p.m.

According to the Borders website, the event will be preceded by their second annual Doctor Who quiz, at 6.00 p.m. if you're that way inclined.

Doctor Who and Classic Radio Sci-Fi audiobooks from the BBC

Emma Finlay from the audio books department of BBC Publishing has been in touch to tell us about a raft of new audiobook releases. Four of them (Doctor Who: The War Machines, The Kraken Wakes, Childhood's End and The Slide) are available now, with a further three (Doctor Who and the Doomsday Weapon, Doctor Who and the Cave Monsters and Doctor Who at the BBC: The Tenth Doctor) due for publication in early September.

Daleks wanted! Manchester MoSI seeks enthusiasts for World Record attempt

Steven Savile Torchwood audiobook, ‘Hidden’, due from BBC

The John Jarrold Literary Agency has concluded a contract for author Steven Savile to write an audiobook for the Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood. The title will be Hidden, and the story will be delivered in August, for an autumn recording date by BBC audiobooks.

John Jarrold said: "The storyline is under wraps, however, I've read the synopsis, and it's terrific! As one of those who remembers watching the first episode of Doctor Who in November 1963 and still watches both the original and Torchwood, I can't wait to hear it!"
