Hallowe’en Horrors East Midlands tour, October 29th - 31st

Alex Davis, organiser of, among many other things, Derby's annual Alt.Fiction one-day conventions, has been in touch to tell us about a trilogy of events taking place at the end of october. "This Hallowe'en sees three special literature events taking place to mark the release earlier this year of a new horror anthology, Phobic, which was published by Comma Press and contains 15 superb horror stories."

The three events will present readings from a number of the authors whose work is published in the anthology. The tour begins on October 29th at 7:30 p.m. in Chesterfield at the Pomegranate Theatre, featuring acclaimed fantasy and thriller writer Chaz Brenchley and local crime writer Christine Poulson. Tickets are £4 / £3 (concessions) and tickets can be booked by calling 01246 345222.

The second event takes place on October 30th at Northampton Central Library, at 7.00 p.m. This event features Paul Magrs (author of Never the Bride and Something Borrowed) along with established scriptwriter Robert Shearman. Both authors are also well known for their work as writers for Dr Who - Robert Shearman was the writer of the well-known episode 'Dalek'. Tickets are available, priced £4, by calling 01604 462040.

The tour concludes on Hallowe'en night, October 31st, at Lincoln Library from 7.45 p.m. and features scriptwriters Maria Roberts and Lavinia Murray. Both authors have had worked produced at various theatres, and Lavinia Murray has written over 30 plays for BBC Radio. SF / thriller writer Andy Remic will be putting in a number of public appearances in the next few weeks to promote his new, high-octane, action-packed novel, War Machine [Amazon], which will be published by Solaris Books on November 5th.

Neil Gaiman in conversation, Criterion Theatre, London, October 2nd

Detail: Neil Gaiman will be appearing for one night only at London's Criterion Theatre, in conversation with Claire Armitstead, Literary Editor of The Guardian, on Tuesday October 2nd, from 6.00 p.m.

The event will be followed by an exclusive signing for ticket holders only, at Waterstone's Piccadilly. In addition, all ticket holders will be entered into a prize draw to win tickets to the premiere of Stardust the movie at the Odeon Leicester Square the following evening, October 3rd. Doctor Who authors at Borders, Manchester Fort, September 20th

Detail: Apologies for the late notice (editorial oversight, as usual...) but three Doctor Who tie-in authors - Messrs. Paul Magrs, Mark Michalowski and Mark Morris - will be reading from and signing their new Doctor Who tie-in novelisations (Sick Building, Wetworld and Forever Autumn, respectively) at Borders, Manchester Fort, this evening (September 20th) at 7 p.m.

According to the Borders website, the event will be preceded by their second annual Doctor Who quiz, at 6.00 p.m. if you're that way inclined.

Heffers 3rd Science Fiction & Fantasy Evening CANCELLED

Detail:We've had a note from Heffers Bookshop in the Grafton Centre, Cambridge, to say that they've unfortunately had to cancel their 3rd Science Fiction and Fantasy Evening, which was scheduled for Tuesday 30th October.

Clint Langley & Pat Mills signing, FP London, September 15th

Detail: From a Forbidden Planet press release: "Forbidden Planet is pleased to announce a signing by Clint Langley and Pat Mills at the Forbidden Planet Megastore, 179 Shaftesbury Avenue, London, on Saturday September 15th from 1.00 to 2.00 p.m."

FP Says: "Clint Langley is started his career in the 90’s and has become a hugely sought-after artist. He has worked on various comic strips, [including] Slaine, Judge Dredd and Warhammer. Pat Mills is one of the founding fathers of 2000AD, and has created some of the comic's longest-running characters, including Slaine, The ABC Warriors and Nemesis The Warlock. His other work also includes writing and developing Judge Dredd and writing the classic World War One war comic Charley's War."

The comics-creating duo will be promoting Slaine: The Book Of Invasions: Volume 3 [Amazon], written by Pat Mills with artwork by Clint Langley, and Minotaur [Amazon], which Clint Langley worked on as a designer and artist and is out on DVD on the 3rd September.
