SF Foundation’s Andy Sawyer visiting the Birmingham SF Group, March 14th

The BSFG tells us: "In 1993 the Science Fiction Foundation Library found a home in Liverpool. Andy Sawyer will bring us up to date on what's happened since and explain why old paperbacks, lurid magazines, Hugo awards, fanzines and scribbled bits of paper are an essential part of a library of science fiction. Andy Sawyer is the librarian of the Science Fiction Foundation Collection at the University of Liverpool Library, and Course Director of the MA in Science Fiction Studies offered by the School of English as well as teaching an undergraduate module, 'Speculative Fictions'. He is also the Reviews Editor of Foundation: the International Review of Science Fiction."

Interzone’s Roy Gray visiting the Birmingham SF group, February 8th

Andy Remic UK mini tour, October - November 2007

SF / thriller writer Andy Remic will be putting in a number of public appearances in the next few weeks to promote his new, high-octane, action-packed novel, War Machine [Amazon], which will be published by Solaris Books on November 5th.
Here's a chunk of War Machine blurb to whet your appetite: "In a time of post-Singularity and FTL, the Helix War has raged across galaxies. Ex-soldier Keenan is now working as a private investigator on a planet at the peaceful fringes of the Tri-Gal. Since his family has died he's run up debts and is a heavy drinker, but he cannot refuse business.
"When a prince from the Jervai Province offers him a case onto a dangerous colony world, but the royal also offers clues as to the murderers of Keenan's family. It is a mission he cannot refuse. However, for this case he must gather together his old military unit, a group who swore they'd never work together again..."

- November 10th - book signing at Forbidden Planet, 179 Shaftesbury Avenue, London from 1.00 to 2.00 p.m.
- November 17th - book signing at Forbidden Planet Bristol, from 1.00 - 2.00 p.m.

The Birmingham Tolkien Group have announced a special weekend holiday for people to discover the landmarks that influenced The Lord of the Rings.
The BTG are offering: "...a unique opportunity to spend a weekend exploring the literary landscape of the young J.R.R.Tolkien, who spent his formative years, went to school and met his future wife in Birmingham."

The Moseley Statue Group, Birmingham, are planning to create a lasting monument to celebrate legendary author J.R.R. Tolkien's literary achievements, and they need your help. They sent us the following details:
"Tolkien fans everywhere will soon be able to buy into a legend by subscribing to the public appeal to finance a sculpture celebrating the internationally acclaimed author and his Birmingham roots. From October 1st, courtesy of eBay, fans can bid for a metal leaf with a personalised dedication and associate themselves with this most famous of writers."

Vicky Cook of the Birmingham SF Group writes: "The Write Fantastic is an initiative by a group of fantasy authors to introduce fantasy fiction to readers who have never tried the genre, and to show those who have drifted away the breadth and depth in current fantasy writing. The Winter Memorabilia show at the NEC is growing

Yup, between November 25 and 26 2006, it's Memorabilia time at the NEC again and this great event is expanding even more to cater for the widest range of genre fans so far - with actors and actresses from Doctor Who, Babylon 5, Red Dwarf, Hellraiser, James Bond, The Saint, and Kill Bill; plus Gerry Anderson and huge areas dedicated to comics and animation.
