‘Basil Copper: A Life in Books’ launch, BFS Open Night, London, Feb 23rd

Hosted by the British Fantasy Society and PS Publishing, the bio/bibliography Basil Copper: A Life in Books, compiled and edited by Stephen Jones, will be launched on Saturday, February 23rd at The Upstairs Bar, Ye Olde Cock Tavern, 22 Fleet Street, London EC4Y 1AA from 6.00 p.m. onwards.
Among those signing copies will be: Basil Copper, editor/co-designer Stephen Jones, artists Randy Broecker and Les Edwards, co-designer Michael Marshall Smith and publisher Peter Crowther. Special Guests (subject to commitment) will include legendary anthology editors Hugh Lamb, Michel Parry and David A. Sutton.

BFS announces two new Guests of Honour for Fantasycon ‘08

Artist Dave McKean and fantasy author James Barclay will be joining already-announced US guest of honour Christopher Golden and Master of Ceremonies Christopher Fowler for the weekend of author interviews, readings, quizzes, panel sessions, the British Fantasy Awards, and drinking. (Lots of drinking...)

Out Now: new BFS chapbook ‘H.P. Lovecraft in Britain’ by Stephen Jones

Members of the BFS will receive a copy as part of their annual subscription and the remaining copies have been made available at the price of £12.99 / $25.99 each, from the BFS store. Cover artwork is by Les Edwards, who has also provided interior illustrations for Gollancz's forthcoming Necronomicon: The Weird Tales of H.P. Lovecraft [Amazon], which is due out on January 1st.

BFS Open Night, York Brewery, January 26th 2008

Lee Harris of Hub Magazine fame, in his capacity as de-facto British Fantasy Society events organiser (Northern region), has announced the date of the next York Open Night: Saturday January 26th, 2008.
Lee says: "As with the October '07 Open Night, the next one is to be held at York Brewery.

British Fantasy Society announces Fantasycon 2008

Detail: The British Fantasy Society, the UK's fantasy and horror writers and readers association and organisers of the British Fantasy Awards have confirmed preliminary details of the next annual Fantasycon convention, which will take place in Nottingham from September 19th - 21st next year.
The event will be held at the Nottingham Britannia Hotel - for the third year running - and the first confirmed Guest of Honour is prolific, US-based, dark fantasy, horror, teen thriller, comics and tie-in writer Christopher Golden. The Master of Ceremonies for the weekend (who'll have a hard act to follow after recent performances by the likes of Graham Joyce and Peter Crowther) and further Guests (of Honour or otherwise) will be announced in due course.

British Fantasy Society Open Night, London, December 7th

Horror and dark fantasy editor, anthologist, biographer, historian and pundit extraordinaire Stephen Jones would like to extande the following invitation on behalf of the British Fantasy Society:
"You are invited to come along to: The Annual British Fantasy Society Christmas Open Night on Friday, December 7th (early evening onwards until late), upstairs at Ye Olde Cock Tavern, Fleet Street, London.

British Fantasy Society open night, York, October 13th

The British Fantasy Society has begun to organise and run regional open nights, in what it hopes will become a regular fixture on the UK genre event calendar. The first of these took place in Birmingham on September 15th and a second evening event has been organised for October 13th in York.
The regional events are organised and run by local volunteers. The York event has been masterminded by Lee Harris, editor of weekly online fiction 'zine Hub and newly-appointed editor of the BFS's own Prism newsletter / magazine. We dropped Lee a line to ask him what the York event is all about.

British Fantasy Awards 2007 - Winners Announced

The Winners of the 2007 British Fantasy Awards were announced during the award ceremony at the culmination of this year's Fantasycon, earlier this afternoon, in Nottingham, UK.
Master of Ceremonies Peter Crowther, of PS Publishing fame, provided the banter and sight-gags as he invited a string of guest presenters (including Chaz Brenchley masquerading as Chris Fowler, Chaz Brenchley as Chaz Brenchley, Mark Morris, Tim Lebbon, Sarah Pinborough, John Grant, Simon Clark, Steven Volk, Stephen Jones, Simon R. Green, Ramsey Campbell, Michael Marshall Smith and Jo Fletcher of Gollancz Books), onto the stage at the Britannia Hotel to announce the winners of the awards to a packed and eager roomful of fantasy and horror fiction fans.

BFS announces programme for Fantasycon 2007

Highlights include an in-conversation session between Guests of Honour Michael Marshall Smith and Stephen Jones, plus fellow GoH Terry Brooks interviewed by Mark Yon of SFFWorld.com fame. There's also the usual mix of readings, launch events, late-night ghost stories, the famous Fantasycon Saturday Night raffle, and on the Sunday afternoon, the fantasycon banquet and the announcement of the British Fantasy Awards for 2007.

2007 British Fantasy Society Awards shortlist announced

The British Fantasy Society has announced the short-listed nominees for this year's BFS Awards, for work published or created during 2006.
The overall winner in each category will be announced at the Sunday banquet of this year's British Fantasy Convention, Fantasycon 2007 on September 23rd, 2007, at the Britannia Hotel, Nottingham, UK.

Write Fantastic authors visiting Birmingham SF Group, September 15th

BFS extends 2007 Awards recommendations deadline

BFS announces Fantasycon 2007 Guests of Honour

David Gemmell Memorial Award mooted

Stan Nicholls, writing on the Write Fantastic group LiveJournal, mentions that fellow author David Lee Stone has put forward the suggestion that a memorial award named for the late, much lamented David Gemmell, be incorporated into future British Fantasy Awards.
