2008 Hugo Awards nominees announced; several UK authors shortlisted

The nominees for this year's Hugo Awards have been posted to the 2008 Worldcon website.

Several UK-based authors, writers and publications have made this year's shortlist, including:

  • Best Novel: Brasyl by Ian McDonald (Gollancz; Pyr)
  • Best Novel: Halting State by Charles Stross (Ace; Orbit)
  • Best Short Story: 'Last Contact' by Stephen Baxter (The Solaris Book of New Science Fiction, ed. by George Mann, Solaris Books)
  • Best Short Story: 'Who's Afraid of Wolf 359?' by Ken MacLeod (The New Space Opera, ed. by Gardner Dozois and Jonathan Strahan, HarperCollins/Eos)
  • Best Semiprozine: Ansible edited by David Langford
  • Best Semiprozine: Interzone edited by Andy Cox
  • Best Fan Writer: David Langford
  • Best Fan Writer: Cheryl Morgan

Joe Abercrombie has also been nominated for John W. Campbell Award for Best New Science Fiction Writer in his second year of eligibility. Which has made him happy.
