Sarah Ash on her brand new fantasy novel, ‘Tracing the Shadow’

British fantasy author Sarah Ash's new novel Tracing the Shadow has just been published in the US by Bantam Spectra.
It's a prequel to her series, The Tears of Artamon, and tells "a tale of a siege between kingdoms, and a battle between heretics and believers, each with their own truths, their own lies, and their own soul-shattering discoveries waiting to be made."
We dropped Sarah a line to ask her a few questions about the new novel and how it relates to her previous series.

TTA Press announces TTA Con #9, London, February 9th

Steve Westcott signing mini-tour, UK, February 8th - 17th

Steve Westcott has been in touch to let us know that he's venturing forth from his Isle of Man lair in February to embark on a book signing tour.
He'll be promoting the re-issued edition of his debut comic fantasy novel Reluctant Heroes, as well as the upcoming March release of book two in the Black Dragon trilogy, Cronan the Librarian, from Frontlist Books.

Solaris announces new novel deal for Conrad A. Williams

John Jarrold announces two-book Tor UK deal for Mark Charan Newton

John Jarrold, of the John Jarrold Literary Agency has concluded a two-book World rights deal with Peter Lavery of Macmillan / Tor UK, for new UK fantasy author Mark Charan Newton.
The first book is titled Nights of Villjamur and will be published early in 2009.

Solaris announces brand new James Lovegrove novel, ‘The Age of Ra’

UK sf, fantasy and horror publisher Solaris Books have announced a deal for critically acclaimed author James Lovegrove, for a brand new epic science fiction novel, The Age of Ra.

Stephen Hunt’s ‘The Court of the Air’ chosen for Berlinale pitch

This just in from the John Jarrold Literary Agency: "Ten novels (written in a wide variety of languages) have been selected for presentation by the world's main publishers on February 12th 2008 at therBerlin International Film Festival - the world's largest film festival with 200,000 movie and TV professionals attending. One fantasy and science fiction book made the cut, Stephen Hunt's epic fantasy tale, The Court of the Air.
"Organised by the Berlin International Film Festival in cooperation with the Frankfurt Book Fair for the third time, the Breakfast & Books section of the film fair enables representatives from publishing houses, literary agents and producers to meet for a pitching session, followed by breakfast together. Producers interested in the film rights can discuss matters on location with right holders.

Robert Holdstock interview at BSFA meeting, London, January 23rd

Michael Marshall’s ‘Straw Men’ - comic book adaptation due June ‘08

John Jarrold Literary Agency reports a great start to ‘08

The John Jarrold Literary Agency has enjoyed a busy start to the new year, with news of a news book deal for a current client, a forthcoming book festival appearance and interview with one of the biggest authors in British literature, and a new client joining the agency to round off the first couple of weeks of the year.
First, that book deal. John tells us: "One of the first horror authors being published by Virgin / Random House is the doyen of British supernatural fiction, Ramsey Campbell. Winner of many World Fantasy Awards, British Fantasy Awards and Lifetime Achievement Awards – amongst others – Campbell was described as 'Britain's most respected living horror writer' by the Oxford Companion to English Literature.

Albedo One announces 2008 Aeon Award for short fiction

Frank Ludlow of Albedo One, Ireland's premiere magazine of speculative fiction, has been in touch to tell us that they've just launched the 2008 International Aeon Award short fiction contest.
Frank has all the details: "The contest is open to submissions of up to 8,000 words (no minimum word limit) in any speculative fiction genre, from Fantasy and Science Fiction to Horror or anything in-between or unclassifiable. The judges have very broad tastes in this regard.
