The Future Fire e-zine announces $500 Second Life short fiction comp

Posted in: What's On on 13th November 2007 by UKSFBN admin

'The Future Fire, issue #9' ed. by Djibril and IxthusDjibril, one of the editors of UK-based ezine The Future Fire, "a magazine of speculative and dark fiction (with an emphasis on the slipstream and socially responsible storytelling)" dropped us a line to let us know that their ninth issue is now available for free download in PDF format, and that they've just launched a $500 short fiction prize competition.

Djibril says: "The ninth issue of The Future Fire includes fiction from Neil Carstairs, Mark Harding and Terrance Jefferson, as well as a range of artwork, non-fiction and reviews.

"Also in this issue, we launch the The Future Fire / Black Swan writing competition with a first prize of $500.

"There's a small technical barrier to entry, but no cost involved: the contest requires you to register and enter the Second Life virtual world and visit the Black Swan sim, which is a spooky, atmospheric island with a raised pathway, sculptures, events, and inhabitants.

"Visit for as long and as often as you like, and then write a story of up to 2,000 words inspired by your experience and submit it to The Future Fire by midnight on December 10th 2007."

Full competition details can be found on the Future Fire website, which also has a link to the relevant Second Life location.
