Stan Nicholls receives lifetime achievement award

Posted in: UKSFBN Talks To on 16th April 2007 by UKSFBN admin

Fantasy writer Stan Nicholls

Stan Nicholls' Troll"Anne and I just got back from the Trolls & Legendes Festival in Mons, Belgium (7th-8th April), where I was a Guest of Honour. It was a great event, very well organised and well attended (10,000 over the two days).

"But what really blew me away was what the organisers sprung on me: Le'Fantastique Lifetime Achievement Award for Contributions to Literature. "Fellow Guest of Honour Alan Lee - Oscar-winning Art Director on the Lord of the Rings movies - got one too, for Contributions to the Visual Arts.

"The award is commonly know as The Troll. Handsome little devil, isn't he?"

Stan was particularly pleased to be given the award, as it's something of a unique occasion for him: "It's the first award I've ever won. I think I've always considered myself the kind of writer who doesn't win awards, so that made it doubly gratifying.

"It was a memorable weekend!"
