Justin Thorne on debut collection ‘In the Shadows’
Posted in: UKSFBN Talks To on 25th March 2007 by UKSFBN admin
Justin Thorne, denizen of Jersey, is that seemingly rare combination: a genre writer who is also a musician - a guitarist and singer / songwriter to be precise - who performs regularly with his band The Chiefs.
His first collection of short fiction, In the Shadows is due to be published by Kedzie Press in May and is a blend of some of his previously published work and a number of brand new stories written for the collection. Intrigued by the mixture of creative outputs, we sent over a few questions about how he blends his music and prose writing.

Richard Morgan on new novel Black Man
Posted in: UKSFBN Talks To on 19th March 2007 by UKSFBN admin
Brit SF-noir author Richard Morgan's new novel, Black Man is a skillful blend of investigative drama, serial killer thriller and high-octane science fiction action-blockbuster. It's driven by incredibly strong characterisation and a multi-layered plot that takes on a wide range of sociological and psychological themes. And without a doubt it's his strongest novel to-date.
While the book isn't published until May 17th, I managed to get my hands on an advanced reading copy and, having enjoyed the book immensely, I thought I'd strike while the iron was hot and ask Mr Morgan a few questions about some of the ideas he's chosen to explore in the book.

Scarlet Traces[Amazon] is a dark graphic novel set in a Victorian era. British horror, science fiction and, latterly, serial killer thriller writer Michael Marshall (Smith)'s seventh full-length novel, The Intruders, [Amazon] will be published by Harper Collins on April 2nd. The book features all the elements of a classic Michael Marshall novel - a stone-cold killer, a desperate fight for survival, shoot-outs, pursuits, shadowy secret societies... you name it - and the novel plays on some of Marshall's favourite themes: the thin line between life and death, what makes us who we are as people, mental and social paranoia and decay.
