Steve Andrews on the 100 Must-Read SF Novels
Posted in: UKSFBN Talks To on 30th October 2006 by UKSFBN admin
Back at the end of September, the Bloomsbury Good Reading Guide series published 100 Must-Read Science Fiction Novels [Amazon], a tome co-authored by Steve Andrews and Nick Rennison. A brave venture; surely any attempt to narrow down the vast field of science fiction literature to a list of just 100 must-read titles was a venture that only the most thick-skinned and foolhardy editorial team would dare to undertake? We dropped Steve Andrews a line to ask a few pertinent questions about the book.
Chris Teague from Pendragon Press dropped us a line to say that he was publishing a new anthology of six novelettes.

Jay Amory has a gripe about most fiction for teens
Posted in: UKSFBN Talks To on 24th October 2006 by Sandy Auden
First-time YA author Jay Amory has a few grumbles about Teen Fiction. "It's the adult characters!" he says, "They're only there to be ignored. They introduce the young protagonist into the action then step back and play no further part, except maybe at the end. That doesn't strike me as true. Drama-wise, it helps to have your teenage heroes and heroines adrift for a while, developing their skills and learning to fend for themselves, but not for the entire book. YA authors do everything they can to remove grownups from the mix, but that, to me, hits an unrealistic note, and I prefer a bit of realism in my fantasy."
