The results of the 2006 Hugo Awards were announced yesterday at a ceremony during L.A. Con IV, the 64th World Science Fiction Convention in Anaheim, California.

David Gemmell Memorial Award mooted

Stan Nicholls, writing on the Write Fantastic group LiveJournal, mentions that fellow author David Lee Stone has put forward the suggestion that a memorial award named for the late, much lamented David Gemmell, be incorporated into future British Fantasy Awards.

Scott Lynch to pen novella triptych

Susanna Clarke not touring with Ladies

Via Galleycat, news that Susanna Clarke has asked to be excused any touring-based publicity duties in support of her new short fiction collection, The Ladies of Grace Adieu (due in October from Bloomsbury) due to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

Orbit to publish Michael Cobley’s new epic SF series

UK genre imprint Orbit has acquired the brand new epic sf series, Humanity's Fire by Scottish author Michael Cobley, whose published works to date include the Shadowkings fantasy trilogy and the short story collection Iron Mosaic.
Just discovered the 300 Production blog, which has some very interesting behind-the-scenes info on the forthcoming movie based on the Frank Miller graphic novel (one of my all-time personal favourites, I have to say).

This shameless bit of electioneering is brought to you at the behest of La Gringa (I hastily point out, before the wife kills me) who is brazenly garnering votes for one of her good friends in Galleycat's poll to find the hottest hottie in publishing (women's division).
Scottish fantasy & sf author Mike Cobley dropped us a line earlier to let us know that his good pal Peri Urban has posted a short film, that the two of them made back in 2003, to YouTube.

New Ramsey Campbell novel due from PS Publishing

News in today from the John Jarrold Literary Agency: "The limited-edition rights for Ramsey Campbell's new novel The Grin of the Dark, have been sold by the John Jarrold Literary Agency to Peter Crowther of PS Publishing."
Legendary British comics artist David Lloyd [wiki], co-creater with Alan Moore of the classic V for Vendetta - along with many, many other projects - has written and drawn a new graphic novel, Kickback, which is due to be published on August 23 by Dark Horse Comics (although Joe Gordon, over at the Forbidden Planet blog, reckons that FP have got stock in already...)

Paul Giamatti to star in PK Dick flick?

A recent story on Empire Online speculates that Hollywood man-of-the-moment Giamatti (Lady in the Water, Sideways, American Splendor, The Amazing Screw-On Head) could be lining up to play Philip K. Dick in an estate-sanctioned biopic.
The BBC has released a few publicity shots from the new (third) series of Doctor Who. This season's look is a new blue suit for The Doctor, with a rather snazzy red leather jacket for his new assistant, Martha Jones.
